What to Do While You Wait

For burst pipes or major leaks:

1. Turn off the water — Find your stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink or where the mains enters). Turn it clockwise to close.
2. Turn off the heating — Stops water circulating and potentially making things worse
3. Open taps — Drains water from the pipes faster
4. Collect water — Buckets, towels, whatever you have
5. Turn off electrics in affected areas — Water and electricity don’t mix

For boiler breakdowns:
